Not everyone is born with that magic touch that enables them to give incredible massages. Some people are just more intuitive with their hands. That said, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn to be a more sensual masseuse. Sometimes, it’s all about setting the scene.
Even if you aren’t confident in your massage technique, there are plenty of tricks and tools available to make the entire experience more pleasurable.
You don’t have to set out with the intention of curing their back problems, as long as you communicating with your partner, you can give a sensual massage that brings you closer together.
Set the scene
Even the best massage in the world can be ruined by the wrong setting. If you’re trying to give your partner a sensual massage but they can see piles of dirty laundry piling up in the corner of the room, you’re going to struggle to get them to really switch off.
Focus on setting the scene and transforming your bedroom into a place that puts pleasure front and centre.
Maybe invest in some new bed sheets or just make sure they’re freshly washed. Silk and satin sheets are incredibly sensual and perfect for setting the mood. Just remember that some massage oils can stain, so proceed with caution. Simply putting a towel down can avoid any expensive spills.
Candles are also great for setting the scene and creating a soft lighting experience which will allow everyone to loosen up and relax. If you’re concerned about the flames, you can get very realistic-looking artificial candles which are just as romantic.
Take a bath first
Starting your massage in another location is a great way to make sure the other party is truly relaxed.
Surprise your partner with a deep bubble bath when they get home from work. Fill the room with candles and delicious warming scents. After they’ve soaked away their troubles, invite them to the bedroom where their massage awaits.
Make sure you use a great bath oil that will leave their skin with a supple sheen that is ready to be caressed all over.
Use the right equipment
Grabbing any old moisturiser or body butter and expecting to deliver a sensual massage is a recipe for disaster. You don’t have to be limited to body oil to give a good massage.
If your partner has incredibly sensitive skin that reacts to perfumes or preservatives, you can use a water-based lubricant in place of massage oil. Alternatively, a simple tube of E45 or other emollients can be used on even the most sensitive people.
If sensitivity isn’t an issue, you can explore all sorts of different products. A massage candle is designed to be lit and slowly melts the massage oil while filling the room with a delicious scent. When you’re ready, simply blow out the candle and use the melted oils for your massage. A truly decadent treat.
Alternatively, reach for a richly scented massage oil which will be a treat for the senses.
Experiment with hot and cold
Massage isn’t only about touch. Where possible, you should try to explore all of the senses. When you bring hot and cold into the mix, it becomes far more tantalising.
Grab a cooling or warming massage gel (or a lube suitable for massage) and use this all over their skin. Now simply blow gently on their skin to give them toe-curling sensations.
If you use massage as foreplay, this is a great way to ensure your partner doesn’t just drift off to sleep. Cooling sensations over larger areas and warming sensations on intimate areas are sure to keep them alert and ready for your next move.
Bring food into the equation
Is there any situation that isn’t improved with the introduction of food? You don’t have to be a fan of sploshing to enjoy a bit of chocolate body paint with your massage. If your massage technique is all about foreplay, then bringing whipped cream, melted chocolate or even fruit like strawberries or messy papaya.
