5 ways to be more body positive (and improve your sex life)

December 7, 2018
By, laura

What does it mean to be body positive? In a nutshell, body positivity is the acceptance that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and that’s okay. Rather than getting yourself down that your body doesn’t look like the bodies that we are surrounded by in the media, it’s about letting go and accepting yourself as you are. So, what does this have to do with sex? Well, good sex has a lot to do with confidence, and body positivity can do wonderful things for your confidence. Once you let go of the negativity and learn to love your body exactly the way it is, you’ll see your confidence in the bedroom skyrocket.

5 ways to be more body positive

Here are 5 different ways you can learn to love your body and become more confident and body positive person. Trust us, you’re going to love what this little change in attitude can do for your sex life.

Stop comparing yourself to others

Never get yourself down because you don’t look like someone who is literally paid to look good. Movie stars, musicians, reality TV stars and even porn stars are in the business of looking good. Unless you’re in this world, there’s really no reason to compare yourself to them. And don’t forget that there’s a lot that can be done with filters, airbrushing and camera angles. The image you are comparing yourself to might not even be real. If you want to be more body confident, you have to start by ending the endless comparisons. In the bedroom, this means stop comparing yourself to porn stars. If you watch porn with your partner, you have to realise that no one needs that boob-to-waist ratio or a giant penis to have fun.

Be kind to yourself

Think about the way you would describe your best friend. It’s probably incredibly kind and focussed on all their best qualities. It’s a shame few people can describe themselves in the same way. If you want to be more body confident in 2019, you have to start by being kind to yourself and focussing on the things you love about yourself. It’s easy to get bogged down in the idea that you hate everything and want everything to change, but if you are really honest, there are probably a few parts of your body that you like. Focus on these.

Stop criticising others

You can’t project a more confident image if you are constantly being negative about other people. Try to stop criticising other people for a week and see what impact this has on your mood. If you’re able to switch off the negativity, you’ll soon see that positivity fills the void. We often pick out the things we don’t like about ourselves and project these onto other people. If you can spot the pattern, you can stop the pattern.

Get out of your comfort zone

Think about the things you avoid doing because you don’t like your body. Now go do them! If you avoid being at the front of the yoga class because you don’t like the way you look in your workout clothes, do it anyway. When you get out of your comfort zone, you soon discover that no one else is noticing these things. This one can be easily applied to the bedroom. If you avoid trying certain positions because you don’t like your body, why not suggest it to your partner. Or you could try a new toy to boost your confidence. After all, confidence is the most attractive thing you can wear in the bedroom.

Surround yourself with positive people

If your friends are always negative, you’re going to find it hard to be positive about anything. The same goes for your choice of sexual partner. If your confidence issues stem from the person you are sleeping with, it might be time to rethink this coupling. Surround yourself with people who appreciate you for the person you are and never make you feel like less than you are worth. And if you can’t talk to your partner about what you really want in the bedroom, you may have to question if they are the right person for you. You should always feel confident and empowered in your relationship.
