How to increase your chances of getting pregnant

August 7, 2018
By, laura

We’re not all about sex toys. Sex toys are a key part of relationships, and relationships often involve making plans to extend your family. If you’re hoping to get pregnant, having lots of sex is a great place to start.

While frequent sex is a great place to start, there are other steps you can take to increase your chances of getting pregnant. And remember, it isn’t only the woman who can benefit from a few lifestyle changes. It takes two to tango, so make sure you’re both doing your bit.

Increase your chances of getting pregnant

Some people find it easy to get pregnant while others might wait years before it happens. This differs for all couples, and it’s important to take the journey as it comes and don’t compare yourself to other couples. Everyone will have a different journey.

Make time for yourself

Life is always going to be hectic, and stress can often be a reason that you decide to turn in early instead of trying for a baby. If you are trying regularly and the stick still won’t turn blue, then this can also add to your stress. Keeping stress under control is essential as this will help you to manage your emotions during this difficult time. Make time to wind down at the end of the evening. Turn off the TV, switch off your phone and focus on relaxing.

Track your temperature

Your temperature changes throughout the month so it’s important that you understand your body and what it is trying to tell you. Buy a digital thermometer and spend a month checking your temperature every day. Use an app to log things like your temperature, mood changes and even your period to help you identify your fertile window. This can help you to pinpoint the best possible time to have sex to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Take your vitamins

There are plenty of prenatal vitamins you can take that will help to keep your body in good shape. Vitamins should be taken alongside a varied and healthy diet, not instead of one. B6 is known to increase your fertility while Omega-3 fish oils help to increase your ability to absorb vitamins.

Watch your diet

Both parties should focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods and ensuring you get your 5 servings of fruit and vegetables per day. Although you may be staying up late with your partner, you should also cut down on caffeine while you are trying to conceive. Studies have shown that caffeine can increase the amount of time it takes to conceive. It’s also a good time to think about cutting down on alcohol, but not cutting it out entirely. Cutting out alcohol can be more stressful and have the opposite effect. Instead, cut down to no more than one beer per day.

Keep your exercise the same

A lot of people assume that the better shape they are in, the more likely they are to be able to conceive. This isn’t the case. Increasing or decreasing the amount of exercise you normally do can have a negative impact on your fertility, so it’s best to keep things around the same level. Light daily exercise should be enough to keep you healthy without putting any extra strain on your body.

Skip the lube

In most situations, a little lube can go a long way to increase the pleasure, but when you’re trying to conceive you should try skipping it for a while. Most lubes will negatively impact the mobility of the sperm, which isn’t what you want to be doing! If you’re concerned about things being uncomfortable, try focussing more on foreplay to ensure everyone is ready to go. Otherwise, you can look for a PH-balance lube which is considered to be fertility friendly.

Enjoy the journey

It can be easy to get hung up on the end goal, which is to start a family, but it’s important to enjoy the journey. Making a point to have plenty of sex with your partner can help to bring you closer together than ever before. It’s an important part of building intimacy in your relationship, so you should make sure you’re having fun along the way. With all that extra foreplay, it can be a great time to introduce toys and games into the relationship.
