5 tips for dealing with erectile dysfunction

September 26, 2019
By, laura

Dealing with any kind of sexual dysfunction can raise many physical and emotional problems. It can lead to feelings of frustration and anger. But thanks to the taboo nature of the topic, not many men are willing to discuss it openly. It’s also difficult for men to seek treatment for this type of issue.

If you struggle to get or maintain an erection, you’re not alone. Around 5 percent of men over the age of 40 struggle with complete erectile dysfunction. While mild erectile dysfunction affects around 40% of men in their 40s.

Erectile dysfunction is usually caused by a lack of blood flow to the penis. When the causes are physiological, the treatment might be more straightforward. When there are emotional problems at play, it might be something more suited to couples counselling.

5 Tips for Dealing with Erectile Dysfunction

The first step when treating erectile dysfunction is to seek the help of a doctor. They will be able to get to the root cause of your problem and come up with a treatment plan to help you. In the meantime, there are many things you can do that can help to keep your sex life active.

1. Talk to your partner

The first step is to have an honest conversation with your partner about what you are going through. Shutting them out and not letting them know what is happening is sure to cause problems in your relationship. Instead, be open and honest and let them know you are getting help. ED affects both people in the relationship, especially if your previously active sex life dries up. A supportive partner will make it far easier to get the help you need.

2. Try anything but penetration

So penetration is off the cards? This doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty more you can do in the bedroom.  Why not make it all about your partner for the night and pull out all the stops. Tie them to the bed for some light bondage play and then edge them closer and closer to orgasm until they are gasping for air. If they are keen to show you a good time, this could be the perfect opportunity to discover prostate stimulation.

3. Grow your cock ring collection

If you suffer from a mild form of ED, it might be that you just need a little bit of support to stay hard for longer. A cock ring is designed to fit around your shaft or your balls and shaft. It helps to keep blood in the area and can help to keep you hard for longer. There are plenty of cock rings to choose from, including some with anal stimulators and integrated vibes for clitoral stimulation.

4. Pick up a pump

If you’re not familiar with them already, a penis pump is used to temporarily increase the size of the penis using a vacuum. They can also be used by men with ED to get an erection. Devices like the Bathmate are very simple to use. You simply insert your shaft into the tunnel and create a seal with the soft rings at the end. You then use a hand pump and water to force the air out of the tube. As the air is removed, blood rushes into your penis. You can use the quick release valve to release the pressure when you have had enough. This can be an excellent option if you are struggling to get hard on your own.

5. Try a strap on

There are innovative strap ons available that allow you to use your own flaccid penis inside a dildo. Your penis makes up the core of the dildo, so those who are less well endowed and those who struggle to get or maintain an erection can still penetrate their partner. Since most are also unisex, you could also pass the strap on to your partner and discover what it is like to be penetrated.

Instead of thinking of your ED as a disadvantage, you can see it as an opportunity to discover something new in the bedroom. Be adventurous and open and you might soon discover new ways to be intimate with your partner, even if you struggle to get an erection.
